half way baby
Sustenance
by Holly Cratty
We who dwell in moments
on the surface of the earth,
are sustained by each day's beginning.
Each gentle triumph is God's
When the clouds disappear
they break up slowly, easily
until the soft and deep ethereal blue
is revealed
and there are banners flying
banners upon which no slogan is writ
only colors
in the colors of the heart
and these will not keep you from going
where you must go
though in the center
blazes an indelible motif

I passed the half way mark, the CENTER of the pct today! A joyous moment! I also completed 25 miles in 10 hours including all my breaks. I was rolling into Chester before 5 pm thanks to a hitch from chp officer Eric. As I was coming into town, the skies had turned black and the thunder was rolling. At one point I thought something on the chp car had broken but it was just the thunder. People lined the streets of Chester watching the show.
I went from hotel to hotel but all the rooms were full. I got the last room at the Seneca Motel. The room had three beds but I didn't care. If you thought my legs were dirty after one day, imagine two. Shower! Eventually I headed out to do laundry, get dinner and do my resupply shopping. That's when I found all my hiking friends and I managed to get the beds filled in my room. Sweet Tooth, Hot Tub and Watson are here tonight. Fun.
I've carried this poem with me the entire trip waiting for the right moment. I always intended to use it literally but today it finds new metaphorical meaning.
