30 mile waterless stretch
Left out yet again
Slow morning. I was really tired because ants kept getting in my tent last night. And I'm talking big ants. Finally around midnight I dug out my duct tape and put it over the small holes that have formed in my mesh near the top of the tent.
As I started stuffing my sleeping bad in my backpack, I had an idea to fix my backpack. Zpacks returned it to me repaired but not quite. One side of the metal stays would not bend far enough because the new pulley system was too long. There was a fixed loop that I needed shorter. So, I took my ray way thread and sewed through the middle of the loop. So far so good.
Went into Old Station to JJs Cafe. Danish and hamburger. Ate too much and felt sick. Used the wifi at the very hiker friendly mini mart next door. This was awesome as I had no cell service. Lounged in the grass at the visitors center and then loaded up with water.
At 430 pm we embarked on the 30 mile waterless stretch of the Hat Creek Rim. Certainly some kind of joke to name a volcanic high desert after a creek. Called it quits about 1030 pm after stumbling through the rocks since darkness fell. Eating dinner in my tent and watching the orange moon rise.
Most of my life people have had a tendency to leave me out. I was reminded today that the pct is no different. And the sooner I accept being alone, the better.
The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a 2,650-mile national scenic trail that runs from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. The PCT traverses 24 national forests, 37 wilderness areas and 7 national parks. The PCT passes through 6 out of 7 of North Americas ecozones. Learn more: www.pcta.org
