Slice And Dice

Turns out I got to have another zero. Went to the clinic at my appointed time and due to very little improvement, the doctor decided to slightly incise my wounds. The worst part might have been the injection to numb the wound site. It stung like a mother. Next came the poking and pushing on my wounds to expel the goods. Double mother. The cherry on top? Another antibiotic injection in my ass.

Having been at the clinic for an hour and a half, I missed breakfast again. Feeling a bit weepy, I went to the store and bought the last can of coconut water. Upon returning to the hiker hut folks were being very caring, but that stuff without fail cracks my toughness and I was soon in tears. Mostly just feeling sorry for myself.

With the exception of a few hikers, the rest caught the 9 am bus to make their way to Seiad Valley, 55 trail miles ahead. Although the trail is not closed yet, most wanted to skip the potential danger and smoke.

Belgian Red and Kpax arrived today and it has been fun to hang out with them. Another, smaller crew arrived today at the hut but most of them I haven't met before.

Made another trip to the soda fountain this afternoon and got the banana split. I've been here in Etna long enough now that I'm starting to know a lot of the town folk. Crystal, with her sassy spunk, serves up some mean ice cream. Saw a nurse from the clinic at the fountain and she asked how my wrist was doing. Kpax, as he ate his marble mountain massive, commented on how everyone seemed to know me. Even the cashier at the grocery store, who'd seen he this morning asked how my wrist was doing. Etna is a great town!

Dinner was microwaved mashed potatoes from the hiker box and sloppy Joe flavored chips.
