pancakes being made
The Pancake Challenge
Alligator lizard leap
Climbing all day long
Spirits were high as Kpax prepared for the pancake challenge. The cafe opened at 7 and we all went over for breakfast. You should see the spatula used to flip these mega pancakes. 5 one pound pancakes that towered above the platter were soon sitting before Kpax. Ready. Set. Go. Two hour time limit. Kpax soon realized the pain ahead of him. As he choked down the last bites of the second pancake, he could eat no more. Even his eyes bulged. His stomach had turned into a brick and he had to go lay down. But the guy is amazing. In no time he was up and we hiked out by 10 am.
We opted for the Seiad creek alternate which follows the creek and then climbs past waterfalls. It's a pretty awesome way to go and we rejoined the pct about
4 pm.
5 days off in Etna, first day back on trail had lots of rock, 15 miles downhill and then a road walk has given me a blister on the pad of my left foot. Hurts like hell.
Camped here tonight with Kpax near a spring. Put my border celebration drink in the cold spring water. The moon is glowing orange.
