Wise Wizard

I awoke to a few drops of rain falling about 5 am. We jumped into action and started packing our backpacks. Turns out there were a gozillion ants inside my backpack. Also, sap had dripped from the tree onto my sleeping bag. Guess that's what I get for illegally camping on the rim. But I didn't let these things get me down because soon we were sure to witness an impressive sunrise.

As we hiked north along the rim the sky turned pastel. We stopped at the first car turn out where several other people were poised with big cameras to catch the sunrise. We ate yummy organic fruit and raw energy chunks thanks to John and Joyce as the sun peaked over the mountain. The guy nearest us was capturing images for Getty. It was a priceless moment to watch the sun slowly shine her energy across the water.

We continued north around the rim to yet another car turn out where luckily there was a trash and recycle can. I met a cycle tourist who had a cool bike and homemade canvas panniers compete with leather straps. Kpax and I sat and enjoyed cashews and wine. Good times.

With evening approaching, the skies rumbled as we climbed up towards Mt. Thielsen. Kpax found a great campsite. Not long after we'd finished dinner and were just getting into our tents, it started to rain. Lightning and thunder played across the sky. From inside my tent, it looked like the paparazzi had arrived as one lightning strike after another sliced through the sky. I tucked in Bubby and we watched the show. Regina added the perfect touch.
