I heard Kpax rustling around and I soon asked him if he was going to fix coffee. He said no so I jumped into action. Had everything packed including my wet fly and was on trail by 7 am.
By 11 am the skies had opened up again. I waited out most of the rain underneath a tree. By 2 pm the skies had turned dark for the third time. We had 5ish miles before reaching elk lake resort. As the rain started to pour down hard I ducked under a tree for a while and listened to the amazing thunder 2 miles overhead. When it became obvious that the rain was not going to let up, I sucked it up and made fast tracks down the trail which had turned into a moat.
We arrived at elk lake resort about 4 pm, found the hiker hangout, got some ipa flowing and toasted Kitten's birthday. I laid out my wet tent to dry in the now sunny scene and found an outlet to charge my phone. Kpax plugged his in next to mine. Why mention the outlet? It was in a strange spot on a beam right next to a dining table inside. You see, we were sitting outside but would periodically check on our phones inside. I went in and a group of four were sitting at the table. I apologized for disturbing their meal and we started talking about the pct. We had a nice talk and it came up that Kpax and I had decided to go into Bend. They offered us a ride and a place to stay.
Mary, Ken, Bev and Don, some of the most amazing, caring angels you will ever meet. Mary and Ken welcomed us into their home, let us take a shower, and do our laundry. While we showered they whipped up a green salad, a fruit salad, ribs and english muffins which Kpax and I happily consumed. I think even Skippy the dog got a bite too. They even offered to take us to some micro brew pubs but we were exhausted and opted just to go to bed. Oh sweet comfy bed.
