More up than I really want
Night hiking for miles
Up early due to neighbor rummaging around. Well, if I'm awake I might as well get up. I was up and packed before Kpax. We departed at 7 am but immediately had a challenging river crossing at Mud Creek. I chose the log which was a good 10 feet above the water and then I had to climb through its root system. Kpax opted to ford in his shoes. While crossing the log, my mind tried to get in the way and scare me but I pushed it aside.
The miles slipped by slowly and I couldn't find my top gear. Lots of climbing. No maps or elevation profile to wrap my head around. About 5 pm we happened upon the greatest thing. A beer cache. Miller high life brought such joy. And renewed energy. We blast down the trail. Met Guardian and Angel at Indian spring and then hurried off to make up miles. Ended up hiking until 9 pm mostly because we couldn't find a spot to camp but also because we wanted to be closer to town.
September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness month so make sure to check your neck. Google to find a good method. I would post it here but my phone can't seem to handle the copy and paste.
I know I talk a lot about beer but this trip is about more than that. It's about lots of things including personal growth, self reflection and of course creating awareness about thyroid cancer. I've been passing out business cards about my hike, spreading the word. Thank you to those who have donated to my Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association (THYCA) fundraising effort. If you haven't donated and would like to, you may do so from the links on my WordPress blog. You can make a straight donation via Paypal or sign up on HikeFor and pledge per mile I hike (just over 500 miles left!). Thank you for helping me help past, present and future thyroid cancer patients!
