breakfast......just kidding

White goat caught my eye
Obscenities flowing out
Elk hunters galore

Hit the trail by 11 am. Not quite the 9 am I had originally aimed for but still not bad. There always seems to be so much to do during a resupply stop. On my way out, I went by the Inn office and there was this kitty sitting on the front counter. A friendly guy that gave me some love and nuzzles.

So, I was hiking along minding my own business, thinking about the 2000 ft climb in four miles within a total six miles I'd pulled off yesterday in a mere 2 hours and 15 minutes. I was thinking about how strong the legs have become and then I burst into obscenities and started whimpering. I didn't see it but a yellow jacket must have stung me on the back of my calf. Nothing like a little insect to keep the ego in check. The damn thing is still throbbing.

Had a nice chat with day hikers Teresa and John and their two dogs Cooper and Pita. Later in the afternoon I came to a river ford. A couple folks were trying to work their way across. I hope it wasn't rude but I just beelined across on some rocks and log combo while these two struggled.

After gathering my last water of the day and climbing higher, something just happened to catch my eye. I looked up the steep craggy slope and there was a pure white mountain goat just staring down at me. Eventually it slowly moseyed on. I kept my eyes peeled upward as I walked a little further and then I spied a second white beauty looking down at me. I stood for quite awhile with my head bent upwards until it seemed that we nodded to one another and went our separate ways.

Didn't get to my camping spot until 8 pm. But the dark and late arrival was worth seeing the mountain goats and the sunset glow behind Mt. Rainier. Seeing the goats is truly a gift because I remember seeing some day hikers in the Goat Rocks in 2009 who had been up there many times and never seen them.

My dear uncle Patrick died one year ago today. Sending lots of love to my aunt Mare.
