Land 'O Huckleberry

You know, I've seen all these elk hunters but no elk. The closest I got to believing that they do in fact exist was last night. Not far from my camp, I could hear them bugling and tromping around. Their call is pretty amazing with a low tone followed by what are almost high harmonic overtones.

11 miles by 11 am equals a good start to the day. Passed a flip flop hiker (hiked north until a location, flipped up to the Canadian border and is hiking south) who said I didn't look like a thru hiker. I don't know what that means. Not sure if it's because I'm a little chubby or because of the barrettes in my hair. Every now and then I would stop and pick some of the prolific huckleberries. If only I had all day just to stop and eat millions of huckleberries. The miles slipped by quickly as clouds moved in. Near a ridge top I was engulfed by thick fog. The trees, full of condensation, seemed to be raining down on me.

A full house here tonight at Tacoma Pass. The thru-rider Midnight Rider, her brother and her horse Valentino. Hummingbird, Lighthouse, Goku, Kazu and maybe even someone else rolled in. The best part? A beer cache. I managed to get here and get everything set up before it started to rain. Thunderstorm was crashing but it has now quieted.
