Metamorphic Marmot

Managed to get on trail by 8 am and I was surprised that no one had come upon me with my tent in the middle of the trail. A slow day it seemed hiking through the fog. The trail was either straight up or straight down and the straight ups are always hard for me.

As I crested fire creek pass, I was surrounded by more snow. On the descent, the skies seemed to clear a bit and I was rewarded with beautiful, snow peak vistas.

Movement caught my eye and it was a huge marmot running across the trail. Dark upper body, whiter mid section and brownish bottom. A perfect match to the metamorphic rocks and mud in this area. I kept my eye on him and soon I spotted another as they kept an eye on me. I talked to them a bit and I bet they thought I was nuts.

Descended a few thousand feet and made camp early at milk creek before a huge climb tomorrow morning. Joined tonight by Bryce and Hannah.
