Aloha Lake

Postholer

On Sunday I drove from Seattle to Redding CA and stayed with Janette a PCT
trail maintainer for Northern California. Janette is guarding my pickup
which I will use to get Larry back to South Lake Tahoe at the end of our
journey.

Janette is also picking us up at our end point of our section hike.
Confusing?

Monday she saw me off on Greyhound to Sacramento. It was a nice ride with
quite the cross section of American society.

In Sacramento I was picked up by Janette's sister and driven to South Lake
Tahoe, which is 95 miles away, where we met up with Larry 'Structure'
Bramhall and had dinner together.

Thank you Janette and Erin for your help.

So today, Tuesday, Larry and I get all organized, have breakfast, get in
his car and drive to Suzanne and Johns house and they took us to Echo
Summit on Highway 50. They are keeping Larry's car until I bring him back.

Echo Summit is 12 miles from South Lake Tahoe.

We have had a bunch of great help getting to the point where have to start
walking!

A little information about my pack. In Seattle it looked like this:
19 lbs base weight. 8.5 lbs of food.
When I weighed it at Janette's it weighed 36 pounds but I had added a liter
of Gatorade. Not sure what happened but its a tad heavy.

It was a great walk to our camp here at Lake Gilmore. The sky is a gorgeous
blue.

We passed 8-10 lakes the premier one being Aloha Lake. There were quite a
few tents there along the trail. I suspect going to the opposite shore
would be more private.

We soaked our feet in Heather Lake. That was really nice and we took our
time as we decided we were not going to cross Dicks Pass today which would
have added 4-5 miles to our first day. Also its 1100 feet in two miles from
where we are. It'll be better tomorrow. Much better.

My training by touring in Finland , Iceland and St Petersburg, Russia
returning home just a week ago, showed a bit today. But, it was not a
sufferfest. Erin, the sister, gets credit for introducing me to that term.
She used it in context to her pending John Muir Trail hike. Great word.

Anyway, this place is spectacular with all the water, granite stone and
various evergreen trees.

We saw some snow; walked on none.

The PackitGormet dinner I had tonight was great. I put it together with
their ingredients, added olive oil and garlic buds. Also, loved my spam on
a flour tortilla with mayo!

That all for tonight. 8:45 time to sleep.
