About four a.m. Im lying in my bag thinking I should get up and pee.
Suddenly Larry appears and shines his flashlight at me and says "let's go".
Fifteen minutes later we are on our way. I followed Larry and his
flashlight. I didn't bring a light.
About 3/4 mile later we crossed road 39N13 and stopped for coffee.
After coffee it was off to the races for eleven miles of slugging down the
I sent Dona and Janette an email as to our ETA at I-5. Janette was
particularly important as she was picking us up.
Larry needs a new trail name: Rocket77. I could not catch him. At one point
I thought maybe he had fallen off the trail! Seventy seven is his age.
At the trailhead we walked to the railroad tracks and decided we'd not go
to I - 5 which Larry said was two miles ( really 1/4mi).
I called Janette and bingo we're riding.
We gave Yknot and Balance and a young female hiker a ride to Dunsmuir.
Yknot and Balance had been trying to hitch on I-5 for an hour!

After showers, ice water, another beer, ice water and lunch nearby we found
ourselves in my Ford Ranger
headed for South Lake Tahoe and Larrys car.
In less than five hours drive we were back where we started hiking three
days shy of four weeks (414mi) ago.
I want to thank Janette Storer for her help on each end of this
hike..Janette, you have a great smile and are fun to be with. Dona and I
will need to come down and help on one of your trail workparties.
Larry, hard to believe its the end of our third season hiking together. I
truly appreciate your dedication, insights and toughness you brought. Its
was a bit sad saying goodbye last night. I'll be going to the Mercedes
dealership when I get home.
Janette and Larry. Do you know that I met both of you on the internet?
In a week or so I'll be adding photos.
