Journal Entry

Hello everyone! My name is Ryan Allouche and my trail name is Rhino. Some of you may know me from me my journals in 2011 when I thru hiked the PCT back then. I hiked the last 2 months with Dirtmonger that year which I'm sure more of you may recognize that name since he is now a sponsered beast. So with that being said, I am back for another crack at it.

Except this time I will be attempting the speed record!!

I will hopefully be starting June 1st but the date could change. I have been wanting to do the PCT again ever since I started working at REI because I would get all these people coming in the store in San Diego saying they are getting ready to do it and I would get goose bumps all over every time and I loved talking with them about it. So with less then 2 months to go I am officially going now. I have been training in the mean time hoping that I would be able to do it because, well, it has been tough trying to convince my fiance and my family that I am doing this again. Probably because I don't really have any money and I'm supposed to be saving money for my wedding next May 2015, and looking for a career and all that stuff people usually do.

I'm not really sure how many people are going to be attempting the record this year but mother nature is giving us another chance to do it. Will I be able to do it? I have no idea. But I am pretty damn crazy and fast and with my experience from 2011 and my training I feel I can do 45-50 miles a day. I will be doing the speed record unsupported but not without support if that makes sense. I will be going unsupported meaning that I will carry my own food and water every step of the way from resupply point to resupply point. I will not get into any vehicles that would take me to town or to the trail to resupply. I will simply walk into town get my food and walk back to town. Some places are obviously far away from the trail but that is where going fast will help me avoid those situations (hopefully). I still have tons of planning to do as I just ordered Yogi's guide to help me out. I will have support from friends and family by having them ship me my resupply packages when I need them.

I saw there is another Rhino doing the PCT this year, best of luck to him.

I still need to call Dirtmonger but apparently he is doing the PCT this year as well with his girlfriend. That is gonna be crazy to see him!

Well I will post more later. Just needed to get this started.
