Lots To Do

I haven't been able to spend enough time in training. I do my Friday hikes of 8-12 miles but, being only once per week they aren't enough. This weekend I did a hike up Mt Diablo, about 12+ miles and 3700 foot climb. This was after my Friday hike od 10.7 miles 1280 feet. All went well. I did discover that my boots need to be bigger so I'll be getting a larger pair this week. I may also change to trail runner shoes rather than hiking boots. No problems going up but the coming down was hard on the toes. I also tried out Injinji socks on this hike. I think I like them. They are the toe socks or foot gloves so everything is individually wrapped. I did wear a blister on the ball of my left foot though so maybe thy aren't perfect? Schroomer, the hike host provided tons of encouragement. I was consistently the last to arrive, at the peaks and return to our start point. For that expertise I was awarded the trail name "Days late".

I have collected most of my gear but still need to get it all together and try it out. I still need to get most of my clothes though. My next practice will be a hike from my place in Palo Alto to Santa Cruz through a collection of local parks, open spaces and State parks. It will be 50 -70 miles on wandering trails. That should be in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately my house painting project and other duties usually keep me busy most of the week.
