Assault on San Jacinto

Made it to Idyllwild! Idyllwild is a small town up in the mountains below San Jacinto peak, the highest mountain in Southern California (10834'). I'm taking a rest day today and am starting the climb tomorrow for a summit on Saturday morning. Heading north from the peak, the trail drops down over 9500 feet to the desert floor in the San Gorgonio Pass (I-10/Morongo for you Pomona folk).

The last section was hot, dry, and mountainous. I had some knee and shin trouble heading out of Warner Springs, but thankfully they appear to be growing pains as my legs harden up. The weather was much improved over the first week, so I cowboy camped each night. Really great sunrises out over the desert.

At the end of a 25 mile day yesterday I had one of the best meals of my life. Burger with cheddar, bacon, avo, jalapeos with fries, onion rings, a milkshake, and a beer. Hiker appetite is in full effect, I feel like a two legged locust.
