Mt Lassen

Very cold morning and a long flat walk

I awoke this morning very peacefully, thankfully very warm in my bag all night, (wearing down pants, high fleece socks, fleece hat, two layers of wool tops and a puffy with the mummy cinched around my head). The temp was 27 degrees. I had put the water filter in the bottom of my sleeping bag just in case, (freezing will crack and wreck a water filter). I heated up some water and ice chips for my cereal and headed down the trail. I put on my regular pants, light weight hiking pants, thinking that I would quickly warm up. I almost stopped and dug out of my pack my down pants to put on over my regular pants. In the future I will leave them on and deal with a dressing change later on. The day was quite beautiful, again not a cloud in the sky and warming up with every passing hour.
I arrived in Old Station straight to the post office which was right next to the Hat Creek RV Resort office where I signed up for a room for the night, $ 54. Nice! Hot shower, laundry and a deli! Ahh the simple pleasures of the trail.
I've been hanging out cleaning myself and clothes, chatting with family and updating this blog. Thanks to Betsy for doing all the previous postings from home up to now. She is just awesome.
Tomorrow I'm plotting a breakfast at this great place three miles down the road, a hitch, then a further hitch of about 30 miles to skip a section I have already hiked(twice in fact with German David in 2011). I start at Burney Falls State Park and head into my final four days of hiking into Dunsmuir.
