ADL and Blondi @ Deer Springs TH

Back on the PCT

This entry covers: Thurs 4-24-14
Idyllwild to HM CS0191:
9.75 hrs hiking. 12 miles mostly up.

Good sleep in the cabin. Breakfast at the Red Kettle. At the Deer Springs TH @ 0815 for the 4 mile climb up to the PCT @ mile 183. No problem with Blondie's nice, slow pace. Feet were happy. Perfect hiking weather again: 50-60's & sunny with a little breeze. Expect rain tomorrow pm. Trail had plenty of shade. Only saw 2 local day hikers on that climb. Good views. Transitioned onto the PCT for the next 8 miles. Lunch & water at WA0186b. 5 other hikers showed up. Tough little section right before Fuller Ridge which had almost no snow. Took 2 steps on a snow patch - that was it. Campsite @ 0191 was in a saddle so lots of room. Setup tent in case temp drops tonight; 7500'. Climbed from 5609 to 9000' today; tomorrow we drop to 3000' @ Cabazon. Downhill can be tough on feet/ankle (R is sore). Hope it goes well. It's 19 miles to Ziggy's house @ Cabazon. Might stop short at 0206 if weather doesn't blow up. Will depend on how we're feeling. Might be 1st funky weather day of the trip so far. A lot of these systems have been weakened so we'll be watching during the long descent.
Fixed a good dinner and am ready to sleep.

All Day Long

Alone in the wilderness without a compass or a guide... However, by carefully noting the position of the sun, I could tell it was still daytime.

Life isn't as serious as my mind makes it out to be.
