What's the longest distance between two points?

I met E2 Thanksgiving weekend 2012 on the San Jacinto summit. We quickly realized we had much in common besides our name. We had both worked for the same outdoor company as guides, lived in the same neighborhood in San Diego and had many shared interests.

We started the long hike down to the desert in a wonderful pine forest. We could see our destination from our first step on the trail, knowing it was 20 trail miles away. I just measured the straight line distance - 6.4 miles.

We reached the freeway at about 1:45 with no definitive plans for how'd we get back to our car in Idyllwild. We wound up waiting 30 minutes until a great guy named Chuck gave us a ride to Banning. We tried to hitch for about 30 minutes from Banning until we decided to call a cab. The fare was almost $ 100 which was worth it over the alternatives.

We were back in San Diego by 6:30.

Two Erics

I am one of two Erics. I call the other one E2. We are section hiking the PCT and hope to reach San Jacinto this winter, maybe Wrightwood if we're really ambitious.
