Pacific Crest Trail Map

High Hopes

Well, we've spent the past few weeks training. There is a local mountain with a 2000 foot climb; we've done it 10 times now. We spent a week up at the south rim of the Grand Canyon, camping and hiking up and down the Bright Angel Trail daily (just to Indian Garden). The heat and humidity in Arizona have been miserable. Every day, we've been drenched in sweat. But hopefully, we have maintained or gained some strength to see us through Washington!
As of this date, there is a 100-mile detour, most of it road walking, in the section between Stevens Pass and Stehekin. We can get as far as the Suiatle River, then must hike out to the west, get up to State Route 20, and go east 60 miles to Rainy Pass where we resume the trail. I'm disappointed in missing out on some of the Glacier Peak Wilderness and Stehekin (land of a stellar bakery!). But we do get to hike a big chunk of the section before the detour. And it looks like there will be some resources available to help the hikers.
After experiencing so much of Washington already, I'll be happy if we have a few days of no rain! Things are bound to work out somehow...
Next entries will be on the road or trail!
