Journal Entry

Across the mountain, over fuller ridge then heading down. We hiked 19.8 miles, our longest day and we spent all day stuck in the storm. It's snowed briefly luckily but it was so windy the icicles on the trees were blowing off. Rain, wind, rain, wind. Another long day with minimal break because it's so cold. We met a couple of girls, Jillian and Katherine, native Californians who were friends in high school walking together as well. Erin and Clayton took off since they seem to speed down hill so I hiked with my new friends since they seemed to go my pace and we chatted about our love for central California coast. After a while they breaked so I decided to carry on and see if I could catch up with my group. Hours passed and I still hadn't caught them. I kept checking my maps on my phone to make sure I wasn't lost. Breaked once huddled under a tree to try and eat so I had more fuel but it got way to cold to sit for to long so I carried on. One plus was we were doing about 16 miles so I wouldn't be walking all day, yet when I got closer to camp I remember that morning when people asked us how far we were walking that day, Clayton joked 20. I started to worry thinking they might push on, yet going down hill seems to hurt my feet most. So sure enough I get to camp, having struggled the last 4 miles to get there, finding my name written all over the sand saying 4 miles! 4 miles Lani! Arrows drawn down the trail. Uhh I was so tired, so found another bush to huddle behind and rest a bit and eat some food. Soon the three amigos passed and I decided I could keep up with them and I'd put my music on so I could cruise down. Nope dead iPod, k fine, keep going, only right when I got on the path I stepped on a wiggle rock I didn't see and down I went. Scraped knees, scraped hands, my pack came flying forward moving me to the ground with a final bash to my head. Oh my god, I'm so over this shit, I'm tired and cold now beaten plus 4 more miles to walk. I grumbled and bitched under my breath chasing after the amigos, knowing if I just kept up with them I'd make it to camp. Half mile from camp one of the guys pointed out a rainbow, I looked for it and couldn't see anything then think I'm now to bitter to see rainbows. So I took a breath, giggled at how silly I was being and how I didn't actually feel that bad and how I was making everything worse then it needed to be. Then looked up and there was the rainbow.
