3/15 PCT mile 1100. Ralston Peak; Ralston, Tamarack Lakes.
I start in a week and a day!
I've been planning this attempted thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) for 10 years. After 30 years at UC Davis I'll retire on April 1 (hence the big grin in my avitar photo as I prepare to submit the last paperwork for Medicare part B) and start my hike at the southern terminus of the PCT 2 days later. I'll turn 67 on the trail in late July, assuming that I am stil hiking. Because this is my first long distance hike I am following the lead of many others by giving myself a nickname posing as a "trail name". By hiker traditon, true trail names are bestowed on the trail by the hiker community, not the individual hiker. I would have selected something other than "Pensioner" if this were any but my retirement year. Only time on the trail will tell whether it sticks.
