Pacific Crest Trail Map

Started vacuum sealing food

I worked today and took my dog to the veterinarian.
I guess I need to clarify that I will be hiking the trail with my dog. His name is Mario and he is a medical alert dog. He helps me with a medical issue that I do not want to make public but if I did not have Mario it would most likely make the PCT too dangerous to attempt. He is with me 24/7 and I love him and will take care of him as he takes care of me. This is all I have to say about this.
So to get back to our vet visit the vet had a vaccine for Mario that would protect him from the bad stuff in the unfiltered water. I cannot remember the name of the vaccine or specifically what it protects him from but he got the first of two shots. Also my vet discussed the rattle snake vaccine that is available. They will order it for next month and it is a two shot vaccine so he will be protected by the time we leave.
So tonight I am working on vacuum sealing Mario's food. I found a wonderful freeze dried dog food and freeze dried do treat for Mario. It is light and compresses well to take up as little room as possible and will not weight down Mario's pack. The brand is "I and Love and You". I got it at Pet-Smart. It was expensive at first sight until you realize that you mix 1 part dog food to 2 parts warm water and it makes about 2-1/2 cups food. Mario weighs 53 pounds and they recommend 1-1/2 cups dried food split in two. The dog food weighs 82 grams per cup. I added 8 pieces (about 14 grams) of dried liver treats (Stewart brand) to the daily food allotment and vacuum sealed it. That is what I am working on tonight.
At this moment my trip is scheduled to take approximately 161 days. I realized that what I really needed to do is determine how many days of food could fit in Mario's pack and not exceed the limit of a dog at 1/3 the weight of the dog. It looks like I can fit around 18 days of food. I need to also determine water usage and deduct from the pack in order that he can carry some of the water he uses.
Well it is late and I am tired.
Good night
