Pacific Crest Trail Map
Day 71 (Friday 26th June). Trail mile 1275. Miles 24.5.
Day started with 3000ft climb. In the morning was much like yesterday -
hot, dense forest, insects. Today the annoying midges only appeared
briefly. Its been a day of mosquitoes and biting flies. You don't even get
relief from them at the end of the day. You are forced straight into the
tent for the whole night - went to clean my teeth last night and came back
with another 8-10 bites. Driving me crazy.
This afternoon was a bit better - got onto a ridge, and in places the trees
thinned enough for a view and less insects. Even saw a hill without trees
on it and a couple of lakes.
Was intending a 17.5 miler today, but then met Lloyd again and was inspired
to carry on to 23.5. There my water source was running but not possible to
get out of the spring so on to 24.5 where there was water.
Day 72. Trail Mile 1284.5. Miles 9.5.
Another miserable night. Locked in the tent from 5.00pm until 5.00am due to
mosquitoes. Got up at 4.45am in the dark, and still got bitten.
6000ft descent into Belden - plenty of insects. Mosquitoes and the annoying
