My Pit Crew!

Get out of your comfort zone!

Well I have finally "walked the plank" so to speak and jumped! I am doing the PCT in 2016 and will start in a few short weeks on 23 April - YIKES! I can't believe this is really happening because this has been on my mind for many years. Hiking the PCT is a large commitment and one that requires the suport of a number of folks.

First, I want to thank my family for their encouragement and support, without which this would not be possible. I love you guys and thanks for being my pit crew and signing up to send my resupply packages!

Second, I want to thank my work family and that includes the Ft Irwin Crossfit Box. You guys all rock! Thanks for the gifts and the perfect send-off! I will try and keep the "Work Sucks" shirt clean but no promises :)

Over the last month or so, I have been trying to figure out "Why this hike" and "Why at this time" and came to the following conclusions. Sure, sitting in a windowless cubicle, in the inner bowels of a large building are not too appealing - to most of us unless you make an obscene amount of money! - but that seems to be the stuff on the surface. For years now, I have been doing Crossfit (I love all my CF friends BTW! Shoutout to all my Epicenter Peps!), and I introduced CF to my coworkers a while back. During that time we had some shirts made to wear during our lunchtime workouts. The quote that we added to the picture on the back was "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone" Well, my life has been pretty comfortable over the last number of years and it's time to shake things up!

I plan to keep this journal, not so much as a "How to guide for hiking the PCT" but as a repository for my thoughts and pictures along the way and to relive the experience years later.

For the "How to guide" check out these journals. JackandBarb here is probably one of the most complete and entertaining journals i have read on hiking the PCT. Great resource and a must read. Another good resource, more for the fast hiker, is the journal from Malto here. He did the PCT in under 100 days.

Thanks for following along and maybe I'll see you on the trail!
