Day 169

Day 169

I'd like to tell you that TODAY'S THE DAY! Yes! Yes! Yes! Today I completed my PCT hike all the way to Manning Park Lodge. In all I hiked 2658.9 miles. It's been quite a journey, full of joy and frequent challenges, one I'll cherish forever.
This morning we woke up to a pleasant surprise - no snow on our tents! But it was below freezing so we packed and started hiking. We ate bars until we had hiked 7 miles and the sun had come out. Then we stopped and had warm food. I had brought 4 days of food but have eaten it all in 2 1/2 days. Four-Five and I hiked 4 more miles to arrive at Monument 78. We could see the cut in the forest a quarter of a mile before we switchbacks down. We took pictures and then six more thru hikers arrived. When we set off we were emotionally drained. Even the smallest incline took our breath away. We hiked another 12 km to Manning Park Lodge. I'm so happy to have reached my goal! It has been quite a journey - 2658.9 miles or 4280 kilometers of amazing beauty, of discovery, of learning and of meeting people from every walk of life. We drove Four-Five to Hope and crossed the border in Sumas to spend the night at Snowater with Hugh and Andrew. We had a shower and went in the hot tub before heading to Graham's for a celebratory dinner. A full, astonishing, satisfying day!
