One Year Already

One Year Already

How fast time passes! A whole year has gone by since I started hiking the PCT. Little did I know what impact hiking this trail would have on my life! I hoped, of course, that I would complete it. Because there are many reasons why this may not have happened, I didn't tell a lot of people about my dream. I quietly started researching what gear I needed. I dehydrated meals until I had 150 dinners. I sent in my application for a thru-hike permit. I read other hikers' blogs and learned how to mail myself supplies along the way. And, I thought that once I checked the PCT off my list, I would move on to the next of many, many things I want to do in this one short life. That's not what happened...
It wasn't just the hike, though that of itself would have been enough. The beauty and the forces of nature are indescribable. But it was so much more. It was about meeting so many amazing people who find a way of accomplishing what they set out to do. It's about trail angels. It's about water and the lack of water. It's about being hungry and about enjoying food intensely. It's about wildlife and weather and magic. It's also about planning and routine and organization and determination and perseverance.
It's also about realizing that if I want something intensely, I'll find a way to make it happen.
And that's empowering.
