Kennedy Meadows to Independence
I didn't want to leave my journal unfinished but wasn't in the mood to update until now , so here is a very brief description of my last days on trail .
Finally made it to Kennedy Meadows Store on June 19th . Picked up my resupply box , six days of food , a bear can , micro spikes , and shoes to cross creeks . The store was crowded so I quickly rearranged my backpack and went right back on the trail that afternoon .
For the next week I walked through the Sierra enjoying the creeks , green meadows , and beautiful mountains . I hiked Mt. Whitney and crossed over Foresters Pass where I used my micro spikes . It was a little scary on the patches of icy snow but it went well .
On June 26th I arrived at the Kearsarge Pass trail that would take me down to the Onion Valley parking lot and then to hitch a ride to Independence for resupply and a motel room . The next morning things went bad , real bad . The room I rented had a harsh smell of cleaning chemicals . Didn't really think about it as I never before had a asthma attack due to cleaning materials . While laying in bed I noticed a couple of flea like bugs on me . Okay , not a problem I thought . Anyway I woke up with a severe case of asthma . In hind sight I believe that the room was bug- bombed and cleaning materials were used to mask the smell . I made arrangements to travel back home were it took me sixteen days to fully recover from my asthma .
My plans at this time are to start hiking again around August 8th . There are no plans to make it to Oregon or anywhere else . Just hike maybe a few hundred miles , take it all in and to enjoy .
