Kicking It Around
One day in August, it just occurred to me - the Pacific Crest Trail. I've hiked a lot over the years, the Cascades in Washington, the Olympics, the Sierra Nevadas. I've done all mule hiking - carrying 50 pounds on my back, spending 3-10 days in the mountains. But not this. As a school principal, I never get the time off to do any real distance hiking. Maybe I will when I retire. And then - wait a second - why wait? Why not just ask for the time off work I need to do this? And then the sky opened, and the possibilities emerged, and now it's on. Since then, it's been a part of every day. I have to get all different gear for an all different kind of hiking. So there is research, and planning, and thinking, and reading, and buying or making. So, April, 2016 seems like a long ways away. But it's not, not with all I have to do to get ready. So I am making every day count. Today's task - first journal entry. Check.
