Journal Entry

Border to Border Backpack Hike

From the California Border to the Bridge of the Gods at the Columbia River through Oregon on the Pacfic Crest National Scenic Trail. The trail traverses 456 miles through Oregon, plus I will have to hike a few more miles off trail when I have to pick up my food-caches.

If you are wondering who the Golden Eagle guy is, that's me in the picture. Great smile, right? Let's see if the smile is still there when I finish. I've been called a lot of names, but Jerry is what you can call me on this adventure if Golden Eagle does not work for you. I turned 75 yreas young this year and is it is my tradition, I do something really phyysical every five years. I call it my 5th year activity, or was it one of my friends that called it "Something Physically Stupid." You know, if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Being older now, and maybe wiser, I'm trying to be more sensible in my 5th year activity. I had my 6th spinal cord operation when I turned 69, which might have had something to do with this "Sensible Thinking" thing. Recovering from the operation, I had to miss my 5th year activity at 70 years young. So, here I go on my first "sensible" 5th year activity.

Confucius Say:

"You can not walk the path until you become the path itself."

I hope you enjoy following me on this adventure.
