Pacific Crest Trail Map

southbound conditions

Hi fellow hikers, on June 16th Autumn Leaves and I reached the Northern Terminus and signed the log book and took pictures of ourselves. We spent the previous 2 days going up the Robinson's Creek Trail and then intersecting with the PNWT to reach Castle Pass. Both trails were full of blowdowns, we likely encountered over 500 blowdowns the hiking was very exhausting to say the least. On the 3rd day we set up camp at Castle Pass and hiked into the terminus at around 3p.m. then spent the night. On the 4th day we went over the Devil's Staircase, we both ended up taking very dangerous routes over, but were able to make it to the top of Lakeview Ridge. A couple hours later when we encountered Woody Pass we saw there were many cornices and decide to bushwhack our way out. This took us the rest of the day and a couple of hours the next morning before we found our trail out again. We ended up hiking over 23 miles on the 5th day and nearly freezing going back over Robinson Pass in a wet snow storm. The next day we awoke to beautiful weather and walked out about 10 in the morning from where we had started 6 days previously, having hiked b/n 90 to 95 miles. We unfortunately will not be hiking the whole trail, we are planning on getting bsck on the trail at Snoqualmie Pass on June 30th. I believe it would of been better to start our hike in mid July to successfully do a SOBO thru-hike. I hope The Z-Man and Longshot are having better luck then we had. I'll see you on the trail everyone. Heartattack.
