Hello Fellow Hikers

Hello fellow hikers!

Well, I need to start my journal (which is all new to me), so here it goes.

I first read about the Pacific Crest Trail back in 1971 in National Geographic. I guess that I've been an aspiring PCT hiker ever since then. There has always been this secret place inside my head that has called me to the PCT. Over the years, I've walked many miles on sections from Mexico to Canada, but I've never combined very many miles all in one stretch. My obsession with starting a hike from Mexico began about 5 years ago when I ran into thru hikers in Agua Dulce, California during the spring. Agua Dulce is a famous stop on the trail where the Saufleys host hikers at their home. The Saufleys are the ultimate trail angels. Last spring, I had the pleasure of talking to a lovely couple from Australia who were thru hiking. We chatted briefly, and I was very excited about their trip, as they were for my dream of one day hiking the PCT. As I was starting to drive away, I looked back across the road and said, "Happy Trails, thru hikers!" Then the sweet woman enthusiastically shouted back, "You do this next year; no excuses!" I smiled and she added, " "No Excuses-- that will be your trail name." So, "No Excuses" it is. We all have excuses, ailments, or reasons that keep us from going after our dreams, but it is never too late. With that being said, I am going to be 60 years young in March, and "life is good". I'm going to follow the happy path of my heart from Mexico to Kennedy Meadows. Only 702 miles this year, but the beginning of my wonderful journey.

My hiking gear is in order and ready to go. Currently, I'm working on the food and resupply logistics.

For training, I've been hiking in the local mountains, and I plan on walking longer trails with a full backpack. I'm also following a 3 month thru hiker workout program that I came across on REI's website.

Looking forward to meeting you!
