Crossing the river a lot still!

Day 16. Trying to get close to Big Bear

I woke up at 6am again, as usual, and laid there contemplating when I want to get up. By 7:15am I was on the trail, knowing that most of the day would consist of hiking upwards 4000 more feet over the next 15 miles. At least my pack is light because of only having a day's worth of food and not having to pack a lot of water lately.

I am making good time, hiking nearly 2.5 miles per hour on the slopes that aren't too steep. I made my first break within a few hours to snack a bit and have another hiker braid my hair. We talked about books and listening to music or audio books on the trail. I'm really beginning to miss having music or books to listen to on the trail. I'm probably going to get some soon. I'm beginning to run out of things to think about on the trail.

After we left that 30 minute break and walked another 5 miles to the next water source, the last water source for 17 miles, we met up with another 6 or so hikers that were taking a nap or lunch break near the river. I still have 3 dinners left, and only a day and a half until Big Bear. I wanted to finish my food off so I stopped and ate as much food as I could handle. After an hour of great conversations I was on my way again, trying to reach my goal of 22 miles on a day that consisted of steep climbs. I knew I'd have to push hard to accomplish my goal.

I continued to make good time all the way to sunset. I was hoping to capture a good sunset or set up myself for a good milky way photo shoot at night, but the trail was on the wrong side of the mountain for the sunset and clouds were rolling in to obstruct any star viewing tonight. Right after I passed an exotic animal farm that consisted of mountain lions, grizzly and black bears and many other that I couldn't identify in their little shelters I made camp within a few trees and underbrush. I felt disappointed that I wasn't able to find a good shot again tonight, it's been awhile since I've captured the stars in my lens.
