Mexican dinner

Chance back and about food

Wrightwood was a nice little town wedged between two ridgelines. The people were so nice and we felt very welcome there. Furthermore Chance were gonna meet us in town. He had stayed in Idyllwild for more than a week, while he waited for a doctors appointment. But when the day came, he didn't go. This was most likely one part of lacking healthcare and two parts of stubborness. When we talked to him, he said that his knee was feeling better and he didn't need a doctor to check him out. I really hoped this was the case, but deep down i doubted that this couldn't be fixed so easily. But only time could tell.

It so odd to experience a different healthcare system than what we have in Denmark. If something like that happened to someone in Denmark, you would instantly go to the doctor and get it checked out, since it is free. Keeping in mind that we indirectly pay quite a bit for this, it is something I will appreciate a lot more after this.

We ended up staying two nights in two different cabins. It was nice to be able to make some food ourselves and have an entire cabin for just the four of us. You don't get very much nutrition from the food you eat while on the trail. Therefore it is a good idea to eat fruit and vegetables when you are in town. What you aim for is the most calories for the least possible weight. You want to get a mix between carbohydrates and fatty foods. A lot of people get sugary foods like candy, but i mostly prefer fatty foods. These actually have more calories, they burn slower and get you more full. I have included a list of what I currently eat during a day and how many calories it provides me. Out here you start to think of food as fuel for your body and even though it does not necessarily taste that well, you just have to get it down. Sometimes you have to get something with a little taste even though it has a lower calories to weight ratio. An example is tuna, which tastes really good, but have just 2 cal/g.

An example of a days worth of food (amount):

Breakfast:

Oatmeal (4): 640 cal

Honey bun: 340 cal

Total breakfast: 980 cal

Lunch:

Tortilla (3): 450 cal

Tuna: 110 cal

Mayonaise (2): 150 cal

Nutella (1/4): 500 cal

Total lunch: 1210 cal

Dinner:

Rice sides (2): 1200 cal

Parmesan (1/4): 281 cal

Olive oil (20 ml): 180 cal

Total dinner: 1661 cal

Snacks:

Trailmix (nuts, berries etc.): 840 cal

Nature Valley bar (2): 280 cal

Clif bar: 250 cal

Snickers bar: 250 cal

Total snacks: 1620 cal

Total day: 5471 cal

And that's it for now..
