Flip Flop Flip

Oh the joys of working for a State government. My request for a 5 week leave of absence, for which I would not get paid for that time off, would only be approved if I shortened it down to 3 weeks. Initially, they did not say why, but when pressed about it, they informed me that one of individuals in my section was retiring, so facing a staffing shortage, I'd have to reduce my leave of absence.

With the reduced time off, that means that I cannot possibly complete Northern California, so rather than doing the SoBo, I'm heading north through Oregon. I've got 23 days to do 428 miles, which means I'm doing higher mileage days, but also means I can build in a Zero day at Shelter Cove. The one giant question mark of this new plan, resupplying at Santiam Pass, just need to find someone willing to meet me around noon at the trailhead just east of the entrance of HooDoo Ski Bowl. The bonuses of this new plan, camping out up on the Crater Lake rim and closing out the hike by taking the Eagle Creek Trail down to Cascade Locks.

I just stoked that I still get to go spend some time on the PCT this year.
