My likely overambitious goals

The office is only...ten miles away right? Without a pack I can do that in just a few hours...right? Having only driven and biked that distance (and to that destination) I don't honestly know how long it should or will take. Either way, my goal is to begin walking at least one way there each day for now, public transportation for the return trip. On the eight a friend of mine (who is training for an AT thru-hike) and I cruised through the hills behind the house. Living in the Rhineland is great, lots of (relatively) high ridges to go up and over, hundreds of trails, farm roads, vineyards and small towns to walk through. Spread around regularly there are even small shelter houses placed deep in the woods for wandering walkers and hikers. And there is always a wonderful view when you emerge from the forest. I can't wait for cherry season (the farmers wouldn't mind just a few cherries...), grape season (no really, just a few grapes won't hurt), and apple season (a lot less common, so they may notice). Currently its spargel season (white asparagus) and my neighbors are doing the normal German thing of combining spargel into just about everything.
