Back on the Trail again, celebrating my 75 year Hiking 450 miles across Oregon

Kyle Coats Backpacking plans for 2018

Hi

Just to let you know I am still out hiking trails and plan on hiking Oregon again this year.

I am planning to celebrate my 75th birthday with a repeat thru-hike 452 miles across Oregon on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). This tradition was started by my good friends and brother-in laws Ron Brookhart and Jerry Hull and encouraged and continued by my friend and master hiker Jerry Hawes. This will be my 4th trip across Oregon and hopefully not the last.

The plan this year is to leave the Cal/Or border around July 20th and reach the Bridge of Gods on the Columbia around the end of August.

Jerry Hawes and Joanne Jones have signed on for the trip (hence the Author name JCH for Jones,Coats,Hawes) and we are wondering if anyone else in interested in joining on the thru hike or a portion of it please let me know. We have allowed 40 days for the trip which should keep the miles per-day down to below 15 and allow for some rest days if needed. We will be starting off with around 10 miles per day for a few days to get our aging feet broken in. We may find the we dont need to go this slow but it is always good to have extra time scheduled if needed, it wont hurt to finish early.

I will try to Keep this Journal up to date from the trail to let you know how we are doing.

Kyle

7/6/2018 Activities:

I have been trying to get in shape for this trip across Oregon this summer. My friend Bob Hoitt and I did the wild flower hike up Iron Mountain and Cone Peak Meadow. I did it with my full pack and was fairly tired when done with the 6 mile trip and 2,000ft elevation gain and back down.

It was Goood!!!!

I will try to add some pictures.
