A little about me
Hi, I’m Mike and I’m attempting to hike the entire Pacific Crest Trail. I say attempt because that’s all anyone can do. I plan on being successful and completing the entire trip but there are many things that can get in the way, injury, family emergency, mental breakdown… While the physical strain is immense I can only imagine the mental stamina it takes to get up and hike for about 5 continues months.
A little bit about me.
I will be retiring in 5 days after 30 years of fighting fires. I’m going out with a bang as I’m currently working on the Thomas fire near Ventura, Ca. I told my wife that all I want for a retirement gift is her blessing for my PCT hike. So the first summer I’ll have off in 30 years and I’m going to be gone all summer. THANKS HONEY!! I started backpacking around 10 y/o and have done so off and on over the years. In 2010 my brother hit me up about section hiking the California part of the PCT. Our plan the first year was to hike from Donner summit (I-80) to Echo summit (Hwy 50), we didn’t make it. We had to get out at Emerald bay. Boy did we learn there is a big difference between hiking to a lake and hanging there for a few days and hiking every day on a through hike. From 2010 to 2015 we continued our quest with varying degrees of success. During the last few years I started thinking, “Hey I think I might want to do the whole trail”. I have been planning this trip for about two years and now and I think I’m more excited about my hike than my retirement.
