Lighter is Wiser!

Everyone that backpacks knows that "Lighter is Wiser". I'm always trying to find ways to lighten my load in order to have a more enjoyable journey.

I just recently purchased a Thermarest "NeoAir XLite" sleeping pad which weighs 12 ounces. The pad I was using weighs 1 lb. 5 oz., so this makes for a substanial weight savings of 9 ounces.

Along with this I also purchased a lighter sleeping bag. In an earlier post I mentioned going with The North Face's "Gold Kazoo" that weighed in at 2 lb., vs. the 3 lb. bag I'm presently using, however, I found The North Face has come out with a new "Gold Kazoo" that they have filled with their 700 ProDown, thus making this bag even lighter at 1 lb. 13 oz., and much more compressible.

I have moved my start date for the Sheltowee Trace/Benton MacKaye Trail hike, ahead to May 12th instead of May 9th. The fellow that was going to start with me got hurt at work and won't be able to go. I do hope he heals quickly and that he's not in much pain.

The reason for the change in start dates is so that a friend of mine from church can take me down to the trailhead. He too works (unlike this "Old Retired" Guy) and can only do it on a weekend. I have no problem with when I start, as long as it's after I get my check.

I'm ready to be out there and I do hope it warms up and stays warm instead of this up and down temperatures we have been having.

There are two options to make an impact in someone's life... One is by being mean, and the other is by being kind!
