From the lookout above Riverton looking towards Invercargill and

Riverton to Invercargill

The next morning we headed out of the Globe Hotel and Tavern in Riverton before sunrise to make sure we could negotiate a final estuary crossing at low tide. The crossing was just deep enough that we took off our shoes and walked across. So we figured we had conquered the last hurdle TA had for us. We stopped on the beach for lunch as a gentle southwesterly breeze began blowing. Half hour after lunch the sand was whistling past our feet as a strong wind pushed us, fortunately from behind, along the beach. Had it been from in front we would have had sandblasted eyes and much slower progress. We turned off the beach after about an hour of this, things settled down, and we finished with a long roadwalk into Invercargill. Shortly after we checked in it began raining but we eventually settled in to bed, leaving decisions for the morning. ...Cisco
