Bluff

Invercargill to Bluff

We figured yesterday was done when we crawled into bed at our usual time not long after sunset. Then we received a message on the iPhone from Rob. Rob is the CEO of Te Araroa Trust, TAT, and was here from Auckland to meet with some folks, including Kevin a prime mover with Te Araroa Southland Trust who we had bumped into as we were entering Riverton the day before. They were in the Ale House next to the Backpackers in Invercargill and guessing we were staying there invited us to join them. Of course we joined them and downloaded almost 5 months of trail stories, gripes, lies, and highlights of our adventure. We occasionally shut up long enough to learn about some of the things going on behind the scenes at TAT. A fortuitous meeting for all of us and a great way to end our antepenultimate day on the trail. Thanks to Rob, Kevin, and Lloyd for making the trail a reality, it was a pleasure to meet and chat with you. Another bit of trail magic.
Not much more to report. We walked from Invercargill to Bluff without much adventure. A few rain squalls in the morning, then it cleared and we arrived at Sterling Point about 5PM. When the couple we asked to take our picture learned of our adventure they offered us a lift the 2k into the town of Bluff (which we accepted since we had finished the trail) and gave us each a beer from the cooler of their van. And that's how we ran out of trail while hiking the length of New Zealand. ....Cisco and Roadrunner
