I had a long list of to do's before I left so it's been quite frantic over the last few days getting it all done and assembling all my gear. But I got it all completed except for a little more weeding in the garden that will have to wait till I get back.
The flight to Heathrow was uneventful but notable for two reasons. First, despite my concerns and plan B preparation, the security screener didn't bat an eyelid about my hiking poles in my pack. So there was no need to go and check them. Second, I slept for almost 8 hours on the flight and literally never had time to watch a single movie through to the end.
My brother-in-law Keith and his friend Stuart were waiting for me in the arrivals area and we drove to a nearby Carphone Warehouse where I got a UK sim card for my phone. Unbelievable how inexpensive it was for a month of phone and data service - it basically cost the same as AT&T charged me to turn off my US phone for a month.
For dinner they took me to a local carvery where I had a good old English Sunday dinner of turkey, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and all sorts of vegetable choices. Very filling but a good carbohydrate and protein kick for the start tomorrow.
Hiking the South West Coastal Path, the Coast-to-Coast and the Pennine Way in England and a wee bit of Scotland.
