Thanks Mark for allowing us to journey with you ...seeing and touching the ground,(through socks/boots) in land that we will never trek. Sometimes life just flips us upside down...as did
the tree that fell onto your home. Knowing you and Ellie, you'll be able to finish what you started...just a different schedule. The pictures were amazing and you have a knack with words to put
us into your solitary world. We're glad you're back.

Mark,
I have now read your last 3 entries. Wishing you that old medieval wish of Godspeed in getting home to Ellie and taking care of your house. I am sorry about your hike. Obviously you are doing the right thing in the present moment, so maybe this is somehow part of the hike too.
Love and peas,
Bonnie

Hi Mark:
Your continuing adventures have been my early-morning reading over breakfast before work for the past four days, helping to put any minor annoyances I may encounter on the job in proper perspective. I admire your undertaking. Well, and to think you saw an actual mountain lion! I told our cats, but they didn't believe it, despite my assurance of the reliability of the source. Many of your photos are absolutely gorgeous, especially the ones of Mount Baker from Baker Lake and Mount Shuksan, proving your statement about those great views. I'm glad you got to see them. As to the unconscionable behavior of the Bellingham Post Office staff toward the homeless and toward yourself, I'm as shocked as you are, and thinking about how best to register a complaint as a WA citizen. I'm glad Bellingham as a whole managed to redeem itself somewhat after that. It was great that you got there right on schedule and now have the most remote, wild part of this hike completed successfully. Congratulations!
Love and peas,
Bonnie

So glad to hear from you! It was enjoyable to read about all the "ups and downs" on the trail. Particularly liked the photo of your "trail" legs! And it was quite exciting to know you had seen a mountain lion---impressive. The cedar photo was amazing, couldn't believe they could get that big. And the PO story was very sad. Quite an adventure you are having and hope the good days outweigh the onerous ones.
Looking forward to more stories and photos when we get together in DC!
Love
Andrea

Things sound better these last few entries. Glad you are doing less bushwacking and hope the next Eden you walk through is a bit more scenic. Be careful, avoid the fires and have fun hiking with Sid!

Thought of you as I finished packing fig syrup for ice cream. Hoping you are enjoying every step and can come across some good ice cream stops! Like tinder here...tread lightly and take care. Sid will meet up with you soon.

Full moon on my birthday, full moon on Scott's. What are the statistics of this occurring? Enjoy the Blue moon!
Can't believe you walked as many Fitbit steps in one day as I walk in a week! Makes my feet hurt just thinking about it!
Hope you are enjoying the "ups and downs" of your trip. Glad you are staying safe and creating great memories.
Love
Andrea
PS. Miss the photos.

Although you didn't get to Profanity Peak, did you indulge in a bit of profanity anyway? If you can't trust the fire commander, who can you trust? Well, I'm very impressed by your workaround. Also love how you and Seth have been able to help each other. By the way, you may already know this, but we're coming up on a rare Blue Moon, the second full moon in a month, on July 31. The first one was July 1. All best and take care--Bonnie

Hey, Mark! It's so good to read the journals. Thanks for making that a priority. It leaves me smiling for the day thinking of Pink Ribbon Fairies, boats that fly into the air, Seth instead of a bear, stairway to nowhere good for resting on, not having to bushwhack the Locks Road every morning, and an old man being someone older than you. Start rant: At Heiser's Pumpkin Patch a couple years back they had a new huge tube slide. Of course I couldn't resist, but when I came out the other end, a little girl said to her friend, "Did you see that?! And old lady just went down the slide!" End Rant. Carry on, Mark, with good wishes from here. Kathy

Hi Mark: I'm enjoying your detailed trail tales! All caught up to your 28th entry and glad you're in WA. Also glad for your rare sightings of fellow PNT thruhikers. Re: airplane mode, I too use it for conserving battery power on all tech toys. All the best as you journey onward. Love and peas, Bonnie

Mark,
Sorry I haven't written in a while. Been busy with fun things, including my last hiking class up Sonoma Mountain. No comparison to your travels but still a great walk with expansive views. Sounds like there have been plenty of "ups and downs" lately but I know you will persevere---you are a Davis!
In DC visiting and having fun with Rochelle, Lindsay and your acolyte, Nick. Weather has been wonderful. Heading to PA tomorrow for more adventures.
Keep on keeping us up-to-date---we all love your trail life and secretly enjoy your rants!
Andrea

Hi Mark,
I am enjoying reading your journal and following your journey. Shoot me an email when you get to Whidbey Island if you'd like a place to shower, do laundry, etc. My husband and I have been hosting PNT hikers since 2012.

Yo, Mark - great reading. Those kids in Mountain View filling up devices with the 10,000 things, 90% of which are superfluous, are out of touch with any user not in urbana. Your photos are wonderful. It was fun knowing you were hiking just a few miles away.

Hi Mark!

Enjoyed catching up with you via your journal. Sorry about the tech problems, but, obviously, you persevere in frustrating situations (I would have thrown the phone down the hill!!). I am wondering if you have seen the northern lights yet. There have been sightings recently even as far south as here. Thanks for letting us "take the trip" with you via your blog and photos.

Love, Melinda
