t minus 30

Today I am at work. As I write this, I am in a basement office on 45th ST in New York City. After roughly 30 more days I will not be at work anymore. Someone else will be sitting in this basement office; which I might add is as colorless and devoid of character as GITMO would be in my imagination. I will hide some office stickies with inspirationally insubordinate messages in inconspicuous places that will hopefully cheer up the poor bastard that gets chained to this desk after I leave. The walls are a lovely institutional beige color with absolutely no windows and several security doors to go through before you are aware that it is possible that you will never see the light of day again down here.
I have made good friends with the janitor, Vladimir, and we share conspiratorial jokes with the elevator operator, Mikhail, while we eat our lunches huddled under the blinking fluorescent lights that line the lunch hallway. I tried to explain to Vlad and Mikhail that my Yoo-Hoo was indeed for adults, but they refuse to accept it as a manly drink. Maybe straight vodka would allow me to be seen as something other than a 32 year old boy. I also think that I am discounted for my inability to grow a respectable moustache. In order to grow a respectable moustache one must cultivate a truly frightening apparition under your your nose and above your lip. Something that would scare small children and possibly spur PETA to form a picket line outside of your house.
I'll miss ole' Vlad and Mikey when I'm out on the trail and as a tribute to them I've stopped shaving all together as of today.
I guess I should get back to work... the days are passing so slowly now. It's all I can do not to sit here and read journals all day.

It's so much more fun than working.
