Irish Coast To Coast Walk

Getting ready

Cisco and Roadrunner will be hiking the Irish Coast to Coast Walk (ICC) starting April 21, 2018 until about May 21. This is about a 400 mile route from Dublin on the east coast to Bray Head on Valentia Island at the west coast. There are five main established segments: The Wicklow Way ~90mi, The South Leinster Way ~60mi, The East Munster Way ~40mi, The Blackwater Way ~55mi, and finally The Kerry Way ~50 mi, with connecting paths or road walks between these main routes. In addition there are seven alternative high routes, since almost all of the basic walk is at low level. What will be different from most of our previous hikes is that we will stay in small farmhouse B&B's or a few hostels, rather than camping. Seems opportunities for camping are very limited, and there is no camping allowed in Irish National Parks. Cisco is honing up his skills on the Irish Tenor Banjo, and testing Irish whiskies in preparation for getting most of our food in Irish pubs. Lots of small towns along the way. In theory April and May have the driest, or rather least rainy conditions. That's the theory anyway. Also plan to do a little genealogy research as Cisco's great-great-grandmother Catherine Aherne who came from near Dublin, around the Horn to San Francisco in 1861. Check here April 21 for the start of the blog. C&RR
