Planning a Florida Trail Thru Hike

I will be hiking the Florida Trail this winter. Haven't got an exact start date yet but it will be around the first of the year give or take a week. Hoping to complete it in a little over 2 months. Looking forward to experiencing the different flora and fauna of Florida. It will be interesting to hike through wetlands and not have any mountains to climb. I still need to get the permits and finish the planning. I will be starting at the southern terminus the Oasis Vistor Center and ending at Fort Pickens in the Panhandle. From the data I have it is about 1100 miles. I will be using basically the same gear as my other thru hikes with the exception of replacing my Puffy down jacket with a fleece jacket as I expect it to be wetter there and I think fleece will work much better. I will also be getting a couple of blaze orange items of clothes as I will be hiking through some areas with an open hunting season. I will probably do 3 or 4 maildrops just ot help keep me from having to hitch hike too much in order to resupply. I've heard that hitching on the FT is pretty poor (it is tough to get a ride). It will also be interesting to hike in the winter when the days are so much shorter. I will attempt to update this blog every day as I have service.
