Pacific Crest Trail Map

Sunday. KM and beyond.

Woke as planned and hiked down a canyon towards KM. Cool but comfortable. I arte 2 Nutri-grains bars, a pack of Justins peanut butter and a couple caramels candies.

2 women day hikers (actually they were hiking for 2 days) passsed us and we chatted. They were hiking form Chimney Sprigs to KM. They had a car at each trailhead and then were returning to San Deigo and Anaheim, respectively. I asked if they could drop me off at thwy 395 and boom, I had my ride to the hwy. Annie and katie(?) were long-time hiking buds and had taveled the world seeking hiking adventure. Im envious.

Katie dropped me off at a Sheel station/Subway just South of the KM road. I quickly got a hitch for and great family in a new Jeep Rubicon. They took me to Lone Pine. Nice. Lone Pine is known as the gateway to Mt Whitney and you would assume a hitch would be easy, especially on a early Sunday afternoon from people heading North to ishop of Reno. Not so. Almost 2 hrs and a father/son picked me up and drove me to Independence. 25 miles from Bishop. Another 15 minutes and I had a ride to Bish. Thansk Philepe.

I tried to Yogi my Holiday Inn Express rate of $ 90 as in Tehachippi and the lady said, "well, we are not Tehachippi" . So musch for your hiker-friendliness. I walked 100 ft and cehecked into the Travelodge at much less than the $ 90. I stayed there last year and played that card as well.

I dumped my gear in the room and heading to the mart on the corner for beer and pretzels and a bit o Jack. I planned on haveing fun while my clothes were in the wash.

Started laundry and took a shower. The tub was immediately brown without even srcubbing myself. The shower was heavenly.

Made some calls and texts while danging my feet in th outdoor spa whilst having a cold Negra Modelo. Life is good.

Dryed clothes and headed for food. Stopped at thwe Bishop Hostel to quiz hikers of snow conditions. Did not receive any definitive answers. 2 outdoor stores were still open so I got some detailed info about conditions.

Ate a ton of fajitas, 3 baskets of chips and 2 margaritas amd walked back to update this journal.

Plan now ids to take Monday off and head out Tuesday. With the possibility that I will take Tuesaday off as well.

MOnday I will further research weather conditions, grab my bear can and gear contents for the PO, make a list and purchase additional food items, buy a new mid-layer at the resale shop and perhaps have my beard trimmed bnack to a oe-week growth. starting to get the caveman look.

Hopefuly this is not the last entry. I will proceed sttatus quo and turn back if I become uncomfortable with the snow/ice levels.

Peace! Enduro
