Appalachian Trail Map

Amicolola Falls State

We have signed in with Ron at the visitor center. I am the 45th and Irish is 46th thru hiker to sign in.. Last year I was number 118 and Nicky was 119. Last year my pack weighed 28 pounds and this year it weighs 22. Last year I started the trail with nerves, fear, and excitment. This year I start with the same emotions.

At the visitor center they were showing local owls that they rescued and now use for education. They were so neat. One had huge yellow eyes that just stared at me. There was a tiny owl too that was so cute, but the ranger said that you would not really see it in the wild because it is so well camouflaged.

We went to dinner at the lodge and had a gorgeous view of the sun setting over the GA mountains. It was a beautiful evening and there was even a vertical rainbow in the sky. We took the 475 stairs down the falls on the way back to the shelter. Irish kept saying how easy the stairs were. I told him to try it going up with a pack..
