"Blast Off"

The entry right before this one said I'd be leaving May 12th. My ride forgot it was Mother's Day, so I didn't want him to be in "hot water", so I told him we better plan on going the following Sunday.

So tomorrow is my "Blast Off", well at least I'm going down to the trailhead. We'll be leaving right after church and with a stop somewhere for lunch, it will be too late for me to get up the trail very far, so I'll probably make camp pretty close where he'll drop me off, that way I'll have an early start in the morning (maybe).

I mailed myself (3) resupply boxes yesterday, for a combination of both the Sheltowee Trace and the Benton MacKaye Trail. Any other resupplying will be done in towns along the trail.

I also applied for my Smokies Permit, which is neccesary for hiking in the Back Country of this park.

I'll be getting a shuttle ride from the "Burnt Mill Bridge" trailhead of the Sheltowee Trace over to Davenport Gap, TN with a drop off at the Standing Bear Farm Hostel. From there I'll get a shuttle out to the Benton MacKaye Trail.

Once I'm on the trail, I try to journal here as often as I can, but if you don't see any entries here, you might check over on trailjournals.com another site I use.
