A new journey
Five more days until our son Sam arrives and we head out for Montana! Sam has not hiked with us for about ten years and we are all anxious to get back on the trail again--this time to begin our journey on the Continental Divide. We called the Trip Reservation line at Glacier National Park a couple of days ago to see if we could leave from Waterton Park instead of Chief Mountain which begins our reserved trek and learned that the high route through Fifty Mountain is now open--ice axes recommended by the rangers.
After months of hand ringing over the logistics (how to get there, how to navigate once on the trail, what equipment to bring--GPS--and more importantly, use it; and finally, how to get our car once we get off the trail for this year at Rogers Pass), everything is falling into place.
Libby, Kerry's Dad's fiancee, will take us to Waterton, she and Kerry's Dad, Jack will drive the car to Missoula and finally a Scouter, John, who lives near Rogers Pass, will pick us up when we come out! Trail magic!
And so begins another journey. Who knows where it will take us in the end. Unlike those who hike in one season, we will take our time and for now it only matters that we begin.
