Back in the desert!

Finish Line

I woke up at 1:30 am and thought what the heck. The moon was bright and
with my headlamp I broke camp and hiked the 17 miles to Kennedy Meadows.
Got there around 10am. Pack was light and terrain easy.

The last 4 days water has been getting scarcer. Terrain more like desert.

It felt great to reach mile 702.2, the same mile I left the trail at last
May! I hollered, but no one heard lol.

I stopped at trail angel Tom's, met hiker Cushy who was staying for an
extended visit. Food for the day: breakfast burrito with egg, cheese and
sausage. Lunch was hot dogs, and dinner pizza! Amazing, Tom is a great cook
and host.

Went to the KM store, just in time for a shower and laundry. They were
closing early for a community "Dutch Oven" cooking festival of sorts.

I had not realize how far it is to Lone Pine - the town I need to get to so
I can catch a bus to Reno. (Chris, don't laugh!) It's over 2 hours away!
After some discussion about options, Tom agreed to drive me to Lone Pine
Sun morning for a reasonable fee. Great, no hitchhiking necessary! All
logistics solved. Between the awesome food, getting clean, a nap, and
having travel solved - I feel terrific! Stayed at Tom's Sat night.

Will stay at Portal motel in Lone Pine Sun, Mon. Get to watch lots of
football. I catch a bus 6:15 am Tues to Reno. Stay the night. Plane home
Wednesday. Very much looking forward to getting home again!!
